The
Bank Street Bridge was constructed over the Rideau Canal in 1911
- 1913. It was one of the first reinforced concrete structures of
its type in Ottawa. Through the years it has had an uncommon history
of extensive repairs. In the 1960s it was stripped of its original
lighting, concrete rails and ornamentation.
BPA
served as the architectural and heritage consultant on this project
which included the rehabilitation of bridge structure and restoration
of its original ornamentation. Construction began in July, 1991
and was completed in June, 1993.
The
project won the City of Ottawa Award for Excellence in Conservation.
